Netflix is removing this feature

Ana sayfa / News

Netflix has quietly disabled the ability to cast content from mobile devices to TVs. This decision directly impacts many users of modern smart TVs and streaming devices, including Chromecast and Google TV Streamer devices with Google TV.

The change appears to have been implemented in recent weeks; users have noticed that the “Cast” button in the Netflix mobile app is no longer visible. The removal of casting support applies to all subscribers on the platform.

Many users preferred to mirror the Netflix app from their phone to their TV for easier access and control of content. However, the company has clearly stated on its updated help page that this is no longer the case.

Netflix states on its new support page, “Netflix no longer supports casting content from a mobile device to most TVs or streaming devices. You must use the remote that came with your TV or streaming device to navigate Netflix.”

The platform has discontinued support for streaming from mobile devices to most TVs, regardless of subscription plan. The only exceptions are older Chromecast devices that work with Google Cast and TVs that natively support Google Cast.

However, Netflix has introduced a new restriction even on these older devices: mirroring is not allowed on ad-supported subscription plans. On older devices, mobile-to-TV streaming continues to be supported only on ad-free plans. This change marks a significant shift in Netflix’s user experience strategy.
